Functional Design

Design has become ubiquitous in modern life. In the digital world, nothing is held together by atomic forces, there is no persistence. Everything is a continually shifting swarm of electricity and data. The single thing that trumps aesthetic concerns, in interactive presentations, is intuitiveness.

Many things go into crafting an intuitive experience, the clarity of the presentation, and what happens based on the user interaction. The options available must be clearly distinguished, and the results of engaging with those options must be somewhat predictable.

Design isn't always a visual phenomenon, every complex data set needs a carefully crafted method to categorize, display and change the information contained within. The best designs aren't seen.
